“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.“—Eleanor Roosevelt

Art of Living

…art & soil.

Wholearth Farmstudio is a work/play in progress…a hopeful partnership of sustainable Agri“CULTURE”, inspiration, nature conservation and creativity. We aim toward a simple balance, blending the joys of good work into this good life We’re working as stewards of the soil, with the plants, with the animals, with our arts (our hearts) and with people…we’ve been at this for quite some time now, and we’re still learning. Learning to honour planet, on-our planet. Learning the art of living, here. Now, along with mentors, farmers and producers in the community, we’d like to show you how you can do the same.

Learning Garden

Many friends, volunteers, visitors, interns and guests have enjoyed time learning and growing on the farm. Our vision is to open it up to many more people in the community who are interested in the opportunity to learn and grow on the farm, to develop a living learning garden and educational centre and zero-mile real food cafe here on the farm. With your support and involvement we’ll achieve the farms commitment to promoting local food, farming and education, and create a rural center for finding wholeness in simple, artful, earthly activity…to discover the “Art of Living”.

AgriCULTURE

Three barnyard geese greeters. The farm is an inspirational 100 acres of opportunity for hands-on living learning. It’s part of our approach—the Art of Living is learning by doing, outside the classroom in a more intuitive, creative environment and natural setting. Both children and adults discover the importance of planet and find a connection with the soil through growing ones own food, raising farm animals and discovering the joys of preparing real meals. Wholearth students and visitors will find the CULTURE in agriculture by transforming those discoveries into creative expression with painting, drawing, singing, music, sculpture, kite-making, dance, photography, cooking and more. While Northumberland Hills and the Kawartha Lakes region is an important agricultural and arts area…we need a central place for this rural community to grow…to grow vegetables, flowers, creativity, minds or friendships.

We’d like to grow further with a vision for a farm-based educational arts centre that supports adults and youth with creative, positive, active programs; improves education for the community; encourages healthy lifestyles and builds community through social networking in a positive outdoor environment; promotes well-being, and protects and preserves the environment by teaching ecological approaches to living.

If you want to: connect with the earth • ensure slow food, real food, good food on your dinner table • enjoy seasonal, regional cuisine • write more • find peace with plants and animals • fly a kite • support local farms • expand time • get away from the city • draw more • learn about the fun in hard work • unleash your creative spirit • take a straw bale workshop • sing more • explore wildlife habitats • take great photos • support rare heritage breed livestock • move • watch summer meteorite showers • learn about beekeeping • get your guitar out by the bonfire • lay an earthbag (rammed earth) foundation • get to know like-minded members in your community • discover a “whole” new way to live…then do.

Do one, or a few, or even more, at Wholearth.

A Shropshire sheep ewe and her chunky lamb rest by the cedars. You’ll find ground here…in the rhythm of labour meditation in the garden or in solitude in the meadow clearing. There is space to breathe and move and meander. Creative expression is in nature all around us—& we’re in it art & soil (heart & soul)—we invite you to share it. Learn the Art of Living…
